Winterberg (pps) Christian Oberstolz and Patrick Gruber from Italy celebrate their first victory of the season in the double competition at Viessmann Luge world cup on Bobbahn Winterberg Hochsauerland. The two men from South Tyrol win in a total time of 1:29,086 minutes ahead of Tobias and Markus Schiegl from Austria (1:29,112 minutes).
Remarkable is the third place of Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch (1:29,152 minutes). On Thursday a slight herniated vertebral disk was detected for Patric Leitner. But the man from Berchtesgaden grit his teeth and together with his partner he is still rewarded with the lead in overall world cup.
Andre Florschütz and Torsten Wustlich (1:29,289 minutes) were in the lead after 1st run, but went down to fourth place after a driving mistake in the labyrinth in the second run.
Quotes:
Christian Oberstolz (European-Championship-Third 2006 und Second 2004):
“It is always special t beat German doubles on a German track. Although we had two mistakes in both runs. The track was very difficult this year, especially the labyrinth. Maybe the cornice changed by the rain.”
Tobias Schiegl (World-Champion 1996 and 1997, World-Campion Second 2007):
“We even could have won the competition. In the first run we actually left out a turn. If the first run would have been as good, it would have been very close.”
Patric Leitner (Olympic-Champion 2002 und four times World Champion):
“My back held and that’s the most important. I thank Dr. Jochen Wagner and physiotherapist Klaus Alt for their sacrificially work this week.”
Alexander Resch (Olympic-Champion 2002 und four times World Champion):
“It’s always better to take the world cup points for the third place than to stand next to the track with an aching back.”
