Olympic Champion Langenhan wins for the first time this season – Loch has his sights set on the World Cup title
8th EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup St. Moritz
St. Moritz (FIL/01 Mar 2026) Olympic Champion Max Langenhan secured his first victory of the season in the EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup in St. Moritz. The 27-year-old German raced down the 1,722-meter Olympia Bob Run St. Moritz – Celerina in 2:12.402 minutes. In his 19th victory, he was 0.347 seconds faster than his teammate Felix Loch. Loch was able to extend his lead in the overall World Cup standings and now has 701 points.
Jonas Müller follows in second place with 685 points, finishing third in St. Moritz with a deficit of 0.758 seconds. However, the Austrian is ending his season with the race in St. Moritz because he does not feel safe in the Altenberg ice track. In the battle for the crystal globe, only Langenhan, with 605 points, still has a slim chance.
“It was really fun today,” said Langenhan after the award ceremony, “I made a few small mistakes in the second run, but Jonas made an even bigger one.” Müller, who was eight thousandths of a second faster than Langenhan after the first run, was a little disappointed with his second run: "Getting through the Horseshoe isn't easy. It went really well in the first run, but not in the second. It was like in training, where a good run was followed by a bad one.“ Loch, who had already trained for three days in St. Moritz before the Olympic Games to prepare for the World Cup, was satisfied with his runs: ”Unfortunately, I wasn't so good at the start, so I lacked a little momentum."
Wolfgang Kindl, who had won the doubles competition with his partner Thomas Steu the day before, came in fourth. The Austrian was 1.248 seconds behind. Dominik Fischnaller made a big leap forward with a perfect second run. Only twelfth in the first run, he was able to improve to fifth place (1.786 seconds behind) with the third-fastest run. Kristers Aparjods (Latvia/1.947) followed in sixth place.
