Olympic Champion Loch demonstrates old prowess

Sieger Herren Altenberg 1^7

Altenberg (RWH) Olympic Champion Felix Loch has finally returned to winning ways, giving a demonstration of his former prowess along the way. After failing to win any titles in the 2016/2017 season, the five-time singles World Champion clinched his 36th individual victory at the Viessmann World Cup in Altenberg (GER).

Just under a week after his victory in the BMW Sprint World Cup in Winterberg, the series winner of recent seasons finished with a 0.126 second advantage over second-placed Roman Repilov of Russia on the Altenberg track where he clinched the third of his five World Championship gold medals in the men’s singles back in 2012. Germany’s Andi Langenhan was third.

After four of the thirteen races in the Viessmann World Cup scheduled for this Olympic winter, Felix Loch leads the overall standings with 355 points. Second is Russian Semen Pavlichenko (256) who botched his second run in Altenberg to drop back from 4th after his first run to end up in 25th place. World Champion Wolfgang Kindl has moved up to third place. The Austrian finished fifth in Altenberg and currently has 237 points.

Quotes

Felix Loch (GER / two-time Olympic Champion and five-time World Champion):

“I’m now heading in the right direction. I had a bit of a wobble on the first run, so I played it pretty safe on the second run. I’m looking forward to the flyaway races now. We haven’t driven in Calgary for a long time.”

Roman Repilov (RUS / 2017 World Championship silver medallist and overall winner of the Viessmann World Cup 2016/2017):

“Second place is a really good result after a poor start to the season. I finally managed to complete two good runs. But I’m still not where I want to be.”

Andi Langenhan (GER / World Championship silver medallist in 2013, World Championship bronze medallist in 2008 and 2011):

“I’m delighted to finally make a breakthrough. I was due a good result after a run of bad races in Innsbruck and Winterberg.”
