Lake Placid (RWH) Olympic and World Champion Natalie Geisenberger continues to set the pace in the women’s luge, winning her third victory of the season at the Lake Placid Viessmann World Cup in the US state of New York. In the 26th world cup victory of her career, the 26-year-old defending titleholder came in first in heavy snow ahead of Olympic bronze medallist Erin Hamlin of the USA, the surprise winner of the World Championships held on the challenging Mount Van Hoevenberg track in 2009. Third place went to four-times World Champion Tatjana Hüfner, who has an Olympic gold (2010), silver (2014) and bronze (2006) medal to her name. Natalie Geisenberger heads the overall Viessmann World Cup rankings with the highest possible score of 300 points, and has a comfortable lead on second-placed Tatjana Hüfner (225). They are followed by German lugers Dajana Eitberger (191) and Anke Wischnewski (190), and Erin Hamlin (186). The next round in the Viessmann World Cup will be held next Friday and Saturday (12-13 December) in Calgary, Canada. Quotes Natalie Geisenberger (GER, 2014 Olympic Champion and 2013 World Champion) “What a great start to the season. Three victories show that my sled runs well on a variety of tracks. I already got on well with the track during training, and the snow didn’t bother me because the track has a roof.” Erin Hamlin (USA, 2014 Olympic bronze medallist and 2009 World Champion) “I had a great summer which I was able to really enjoy after my bronze medal at the Olympics. And now ‘'m just enjoying luging, particularly here on my home track.” Tatjana Hüfner (GER, 2010 Olympic Champion and four-times World Champion) “I try to shut out everything but the race. I’m particularly happy today because I’ve made it onto the Lake Placid podium for the first time in my career.”
