Lausanne (RWH) Every year on 23 June, the Olympic Day remembers the birthday of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris and raises awareness of the vital role sport and physical activity play in society. 2019 marks the 71st anniversary of Olympic Day.

On Olympic Day 2019, The International Olympic Committee itself inaugurates the newly built Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland, as IOC headquarter. Additionally, the IOC celebrates its 125th anniversary in the presence of Olympic Movement’s representatives and Olympians. Live Streams of the events on 23 June can be found on the IOC YouTube and Twitter handles.

As the International Olympic Committee IOC explains, Olympic Day is a day for the World to get active, learn about Olympic values and discover new sports. Based on the three pillars MOVE, LEARN and DISCOVER, National Olympic Committees are organising sports, cultural and educational activities throughout the world.
