Berlin (pps) Among the runners who carried the torch for the 2004 Olympic Summer Games in Athens was Sylke Otto. The Olympic Champion carried the Olympic torch during its stop in Berlin.
„I was so excited. I have never expected that so many spectators would line the streets”, admitted Sylke Otto after her run through the German capital.
The Athens Olympic Torch Relay has been travelling around the world for three months now. The torch started its journey on March 25 in the Games’ ancient birthplace at Olympia, Greece, and will ignite the Olympic cauldron in Athens for the opening of the XXVIII Games on August 13. The relay will then have stopped in those 21 cities that have been host to Olympic Summer Games.
For the first time, the Olympic flame also visited South America – just at the same time when the International Luge Federation, FIL, held their congress in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil.
