Olympia/Moscow (pps) Four months ahead of the XXII. Olympic Winter Games the Olympic Flame starts its way towards host city Sochi (RUS). After the special lighting ceremony in the presence of the new president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach of Germany in ancient Olympia in Greece on September 29 the flame is now on its way to the Russian capital of Moscow. This is where the longest-ever Olympic torch relay with more than 65.000 km to cover will start on October 7. About 14.000 people will carry the flame with the especially designed torches made from aluminium and red polymer. Due to the great distances in Russia, the Olympic Flame will also be carried by plane (25.455 km), car (20.273 km), train (17.728 km), helicopter (2.256 km) and a deer sled (1 km). Before the flame will light the Olympic Fire on February 7, 2014 at the Sochi Olympic Stadium, the torch relay will have visited more than 2.900 locations in 83 Russian regions.
