Innsbruck-Igls (RWH) Olympic Champion Natalie Geisenberger has started the new luge winter the same way she finished the last. Nine months after winning gold at the Sochi Winter Olympics, the 26-year-old celebrated her 24th Viessmann World Cup victory at the opening race of the season in Innsbruck-Igls. Fellow Germans Dajana Eitberger, Tatjana Hufner and Anke Wischnewski came second to fourth, Eitberger’s best ever result after bronze in the European Championships and Hüfner’s 55th podium appearance. America's Olympic bronze medallist Erin Hamlin took fifth and Kimberly McRae of Canada sixth. Quotes Natalie Geisenberger (2014 Olympic Champion and 2013 World Champion) “Now my collection of race bibs with titles is complete: Olympic Champion, World Champion, and top in the World Cup rankings. A two tenths lead is pretty good on a track like Igls. It’s a good feeling to start the season with a victory.” Dajana Eitberger (2014 European Championship bronze medallist) “I’m probably the happiest luger of the lot. It’s great when you feel the sled dancing with you on the track.” Tatjana Hüfner (2010 Olympic Champion and four-times World Champion) “I’m not happy with my result. Two tenths of a second in Igls is too big a gap.”
