Sarajevo (RWH) The Olympic track in Sarajevo is currently being brought back to life. At the end of June, the Bosnia and Herzegovina luge association started work on the track which showcased the luge and bobsleigh events at the 1984 Olympic Winter Games. The aim of the project is to make the facilities available for summer luge activities.

Clearance work has begun on the bottom section of the track, and has aroused considerable media interest. 720 metres of the track will be restored during the initial phase. The president of the Bosnia and Herzegovina luge association, Senad Omanović, explained in Sarajevo that support is being provided for this by the local authorities, but that sponsors are still needed for the second stage of restoration, in which a special protective finish will be applied to the track.

The Olympic track in Sarajevo was damaged during the civil war at the beginning of the 1990s. The luge gold medallists on the track on Mount Trebevic 30 years ago were Steffi Martin (GDR), Paul Hildgartner (ITA) and Hans Stanggassinger/Franz Wembacher (FRG).
