Olympic winter to get underway in Lillehammer

Lillehammer (RWH) The Olympic winter is due to get underway in Lillehammer, Norway. The first luge runs of the 2017/2018 season are expected to take place on 27 September on the track used for the 1994 Olympics, ahead of a season which includes the jewel in the crown – the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Korea.

According to the manager of the Lillehammer track, some 142 athletes from 19 nations are due to take to the artificial ice at Hunderfossen, just 135 days ahead of the opening ceremony on 9 February 2018. In addition, there will be seven juniors from Austria, a delegation from Oberhof, Germany, and the Polish club Karpacz Pochlod.

The Viessmann World Cup officially gets the Olympic season underway on the Olympic ice track in Innsbruck from 18 to 19 November 2017. Lillehammer will host the penultimate Viessmann World Cup on 20-21 January 2018.

The following nations have registered to take part in the training week: Australia, Austria, Germany, Latvia, France, Poland, Italy, Slovakia, Great Britain, Sweden, Romania, Canada, Croatia, India, Turkey, China, Russia, the USA and host country Norway. Teams from Oberhof and Poland are also set to attend.
