On the Road to Beijing: Canada won two Olympic medals in 2018

Tristan Walker and Justin Snith, Team Canada

Sigulda (FIL) The Canadian luge team won silver with the team relay and bronze with Alex Gough in the women's singles at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Korea. With the double of Tristan Walker and Justin Snith, two of the team's silver medalists will also compete again in Beijing in 2022.

Head coach Wolfgang Staudinger says: "Walker/Snith are the only veterans in our very young team. An Olympic medal is possible for both doubles athletes. It must also clearly be the goal after their fourth places in Sochi 2014 and fifth place in the doubles in PyeongChang."

Luge Team Canada

The Canadian national luge team has been on ice since 6 October 2021 in Sigulda (LAT) for luge training. The training course in Latvia will last until 17 October. During this time, three selection races for the World Cup and Olympic team will be held.

After that, Team Canada will go to Winterberg and Altenberg (both GER) for the International Training Weeks (ITWs). From Frankfurt, Team Canada's World Cup team will then join the other national teams on a FIL charter flight to China on 3 November 2021 for international training and the World Cup opener of the EBERSPÄCHER series, and then on to Sochi (RUS). The Canadian World Cup team will include two doubles, one men's single and four women's singles.

"Over Christmas we will stay in Winterberg. We are trying to qualify as many athletes of our young team for the Olympics as possible, so that we can prepare them optimally for 2026. With a young team you have to plan for the long term. Those who qualify for the Olympics will not travel back to Canada until after the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games," says head coach Wolfgang Staudinger, for whom this will be his last assignment with this team after 15 years in Canada.

After the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing 2022, Staudinger, who has led the Canadian lugers to medal wins at Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cups and Youth Olympic Games, will end his work as head coach of the Canadian luge team.
