Positive YOG signals for FIL from Lausanne

Lausanne 2012

Innsbruck (RWH) The President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Germany’s Josef Fendt, brought back some positive news regarding luge at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Lausanne from his meeting with the Organising Committee in Switzerland. “We have a good chance of being part of the YOG schedule again this time,” Fendt informed journalists at the Luge Press Briefing in Innsbruck.

Last week, Fendt and Secretary General Svein Romstad attended the “International Federation Forum 2016” in Lausanne, which involved meetings with the association of winter sports federations, the Sports Department of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and also the OC for the YOG in Lausanne.

Fendt is confident that the situation is progressing in the right direction. “The venue is still undecided. The natural ice track in St. Moritz and the 1992 Olympic track in La Plagne are two options.” Bach reiterated that the final decision would be taken by the IOC Executive Board.

Lausanne is due to host the third Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2020. The Games were previously staged in Innsbruck (AUT) in 2012 and Lillehammer (NOR) in 2016.
