Lake Placid (pps) The preparations are in full swing for the 41st World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Lake Placid in the US federal state of New York. This was reported by Claire DelNegro, FIL Vice President for Sport following a recent meeting on site.
„It is always a pleasure to come to Lake Placid. And it is also always a pleasure to have a race in Lake Placid“, said Claire DelNegro at her meeting with the local organizing committee. The former director of the United States bobsled federation, which is based in Lake Placid, added: „At the same time, Lake Placid is one of my home towns, that’s why I am especially looking forward to these championships.“
Lake Placid hosted FIL World Championships for the first time in 1983 and very successfully organized the FIL Junior World Championships in the past winter. Claire DelNegro also recalled the Viessmann World Cup of the 2007/2008 season, where athletes from four different nations reached medal ranks. „At the FIL, we hope that these championships will be a real challenge for all participating nations“, said Claire DelNegro.
From February 6 to 8, four World Champion titles (women, men, doubles and relay) will be awarded at the artificial luge track located at Mount van Houvenberg with its length of one mile comprising 20 curves.
