Preparations for the 73rd FIL Congress in Finland are in full swing

Tampere (FIL/Juni 02, 2025) Preparations for the 73rd Congress of the International Luge Federation (FIL), which will take place on June 18 and 19, 2025, in Tampere (Finland), are progressing rapidly.

The FIL Executive Committee will meet on Tuesday, June 17, to prepare the agenda for the World Congress and the upcoming 2025/2026 Olympic season.

Delegates from a total of 36 national member federations (NFs) are expected to attend the congress, which is a strong signal of the global commitment to luge.
The following countries have confirmed their participation: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Georgia, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkey, Ukraine, and the USA.

The Congress will officially begin on Wednesday, June 18, with a welcome address by FIL President Einars Fogelis (LAT) and representatives of the Finnish hosts. This will be followed by the roll call of delegates and initial votes under the direction of FIL Secretary General Dwight Bell (USA).

The most important items on the Congress agenda are:

  • Admission of new member federations to the FIL
  • Reports from the FIL Executive Committee, the President and the Secretary General
  • Presentation of the qualification system for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina
  • Discussion and vote on current motions, including the resolution on the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic qualification process under the IOC's AIN procedure
  • Presentation of the 2025 and 2026 financial plans, report of the Control Commission, and determination of future membership fees
  • Updates on the “Slide 2026” strategic plan and progress toward the 2026 Olympic Games
  • Awarding of future FIL championships through 2029Decision on the venue for the 2027 FIL Congress

This year's FIL Congress will therefore be a landmark meeting for the international luge community. In a year dominated by the Winter Olympics, key decisions will be made here that will shape the future of the sport.
