FIL President Josef Fendt on a two-day visit in Poland
Warsaw/Goldap (pps) Josef Fendt of Berchtesgaden, President of the International Luge Federation, FIL, returned from his visit to Poland with downright positive impressions. In Warsaw 64-year old Fendt met with representatives of Poland’s Ministery of Sports and Tourism and the national luge federation. In Goldap Fendt inspected a possible venue for track building projects in Poland.
Kick-starting the two-day visit, Fendt, who was accompanied by FIL Executive Director Christoph Schweiger, had an exchange of ideas with Under Secretary Jacek Foks as well as Jerzy Eliasz, Director Department of Professional Sports. Additionally, Vice Presidents Michal Jasnosz and Marek Wiśniowski of Poland’s Luge Federation were also present. Topics under discussion were the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, and particularly the chances of a Polish luge squad to qualify for the Team Relay Event, the support for the FIL natural track initiative as well as the building projects for natural and artificially refrigerated tracks.
The second part of the journey included a visit to the city of Goldap, about 330 kilometers away from Warsaw in the northeastern part of Poland, where plans for the construction of a natural luge track on an already existing trail (concrete slope) as well as plans for the construction of an artificially refrigerated track (synthetics) according to the track models in Zwickau and Ilmenau were presented in great detail.
“We got the impression, that the implementation of the projects in Goldap are seriously pursued and that the Polish Luge Federation and all those concerned are fully supporting the venture”, concluded Josef Fendt.
In conclusion there was an informal meeting with the President of the Polish National Olympic Committee, Andrzej Kraśnicki, in Warsaw.
