Preview 5th EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup Innsbruck (AUT): Olympic ice canal Igls last World Cup venue before Christmas

Innsbruck (FIL) Next weekend, December 18 and 19, 2021, the last EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup before the Christmas break will take place in Innsbruck-Igls. In addition to the classic EBERSPÄCHER World Cup in the disciplines women's and men's singled as well as in doubled, Innsbruck will also host the second BMW Sprint World Cup of the season.
171 athletes from 28 nations (ARG, AUS, AUT, BIH, BUL, CAN, CHN, CZE, GEO, GBR, GER, IRL, ITA, JPN, KOR, LAT, MDA, NED, NZL, POL, ROU, RUS, SUI, SVK, SWE, TUR, UKR, USA) will be competing for World Cup points and Olympic qualification. In the new year, two more EBERSPÄCHER World Cups will take place in Winterberg (GER) and Sigulda (LAT). Then the Olympic participants for Beijing 2022 will be nominated.

After the red-white-red festival in Altenberg (Saxony) - Madeleine Egle, Thomas Steu/ Lorenz Koller and Wolfgang Kindl (all AUT) could convince with participation of the German lugers. The men's race of the EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup on Sunday, 12 December offered a curiosity: After the two runs Wolfgang Kindl (Austria) and Max Langenhan (Germany) were equal in time to the thousandth of a second - 1:47.997 seconds - and took the World Cup victory together. Only in the final Team Relay World Cup it was not enough for the Austrian team to achieve a complete triumph. The quartet Madeleine Egle, Wolfgang Kindl and Thomas Steu/Lorenz Koller finished only fifth, 1.119 seconds behind. Germany won with Julia Taubitz, Max Langenhan and Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken ahead of Italy (+0.325 seconds behind; Andrea Vötter, Dominik Fischnaller, Ludwig Rieder/Patrick Rastner) and Russia (+0.493; Ekaterina Katnikova, Aleksandr Gorbatcevich, Aleksandr Denisov/Vladislav Antonov).
With the past weekend in Saxony, Tyrol's and Vorarlberg's luge athletes have put themselves in the favourite roles for the upcoming EBERSPÄCHER World Cups in the 1976 Olympic ice track in Innsbruck-Igls.

2nd BMW Sprint World Cup in Igls
The second of four BMW Sprint World Cups will be held in Innsbruck on Sunday, December 19. After the first BMW Sprint in Sochi, Julia Taubitz (GER), Dominik Fischnaller (ITA) and Andris Sics/Juris Sics (LAT) are leading this ranking. The chasers in men's singles are World Champion Roman Repilov (RUS) and Altenberg winner Wolfgang Kindl (AUT), in women's singles America-Pacific Champion Summer Britcher (USA) as well as World Championship bronze medalist Dajana Eitberger (GER) and in the doubles the Russians Aleksandr Denisev/Vladislav Antonov as well as the German duo Robin Geueke/David Gamm.
