Preview FIL Team Relay World Championships

Oberhof (FIL/26 Jan 2023) The Team Relay has traditionally been the final event since 2008 and is always one of the emotional highlights of the World Championships due to the reactive start and the error rate at the changeover touch pad. Since the 2008 World Championships in Oberhof, only Team Germany has been on the podium in all ten relay decisions, eight times at the top. Team Latvia has won two silver medals and four bronze medals, Team Austria one gold medal and three silver medals and Team Canada one silver medal and three bronze medals.
At the 2021 World Championships in Koenigssee, Austria won with the lineup of Madeleine Egle, David Gleirscher and the doubles team of Thomas Steu/Lorenz Koller, ahead of Team Germany with Julia Taubitz, Felix Loch and Eggert/Benecken and Team Latvia with Kendija Aparjode, Artus Darznieks and the Sics brothers. In the current World Cup season, Team Latvia leads the ranking in the Team Relay World Cup ahead of Germany and Italy after two victories and one second place. Team Austria has only been able to score points at the first EBERSPÄCHER Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW on December 10, 2022 in Whistler, at the two relays in Sigulda the team did not finish twice due to crashes.
The Team Relay World Championship will be held on Sunday, January 29, starting at 13:40. Each nation decides on the relay line-ups itself; however, as a rule, the best in each event will start in the World Championship men's and women's singles and men's doubles. The new discipline of women's doubles is currently not yet integrated into the team relay.
