Calgary (pps) Armin Zoeggeler, the two-time Olympic champion from Italy, could draw level with the two record-winners Markus Prock (Austria) and Georg Hackl (Germany) with a victory in the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Calgary, Canada, next weekend. “I’ve never made it secret of it: achieving the record is one of my goals this season”, stated Zoeggeler, who now boasts a total of 32 wins after having won the World Cup event in Park City, USA. Prock and Hackl both have achieved 33 victories in the Viessmann Luge World Cup. Zoeggeler’s prospects to succeed are quite good – in Calgary, host city of the 1988 Olympic Games, he claimed the third of his now five World titles and achieved three Viessmann Luge World Cup wins (1997-98, 1999-2000 and 2002-03). At present, Germany’s former World champion David Moeller is Zoeggeler’s strongest competitor. Moeller, who achieved two World Cup victories at Canada Olympic Park (2003-04, 2004-05) and came runner-up in Park City clocking the fastest time in the second run, boasts a lot of self-confidence: “Whoever will be faster than Zoeggeler may certainly claim a World Cup victory”, the 2004 World Champion stated.
