PyeongChang/Seoul (pps)The Organising Committee of the Olympic Winter Games 2018 in PyeongChang (KOR) launched its official Olympic emblem as was reported on www.olympic.org. The emblem’s design bases on the Korean alphabet Hangul and five traditional Korean colours black, blue/green, yellow, red, and white, the same colour scheme as in the Olympic flag. The first consonants of each syllable in the word “PyeongChang” written in Hangul build the first part of the logo and also represent a gathering place where the three elements of Korea’s traditional humanism Cheon-ji-in – heaven, earth, and human – are in harmony. The logo’s second character symbolises snow and ice, as well as the athletes’ stellar performances. The emblem was launched at a gala ceremony with over 1,000 guests including Gunilla Lindberg, Chair of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Coordination Commission for PyeongChang 2018, the President of PyeongChang‘s Organising Committee POCOG Jin-sun Kim, the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Jinryong Yoo and the President of the Korean Olympic Committee Jung-haeng Kim held simultaneously in PyeongChang and in Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea.
