FIL decides on Koenigssee to replace Cesana as host of the Viessmann Luge World Cup Berchtesgaden (pps) The “oldest artificially refrigerated track” in Koenigssee (Germany) will replace the artificially refrigerated track in Cesana (Italy), originally scheduled to host the second stop of the Viessmann Luge World Cup series on December 1-2, 2012. This is why the Viessmann Luge World Cup is making two stops this pre-Olympic season at the ice labyrinth at the foot of the Watzmann Mountain that was opened in 1969 and recently modernized. Koenigssee will host its World Cup events number 32 and 32 on December 1-2, 2012 as well as on January 5-6, 2013 and remains record World Cup venue. The new schedule became necessary after the closing at short notice of the Olympic luge track in Cesana. In a letter addressed to the International Luge Federation (FIL), the President of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (Federazione Italiana Sport Invernali, FISI), Flavio Roda, informed about the fact that the track operating company Parcolimpico S.r.l. is not in a situation to guarantee a smooth running of operations. Similar to other sports venues built for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, the artificially refrigerated track, situated a two-hour drive away from Turin, belongs to Parcolimpico S.r.l. Cesana did not only carry out the Olympic luge events but also played host to the 42nd FIL Luge Championships in 2011, the 41st FIL Luge European Championships in 2008 as well as four Viessmann Luge World Cup events.
