Great success showed Sonja Steinacher in the last run of the natural track luge World Cup in Zelezniki (SLO). Not only celebrating her fifth victory this season, she also triumphed in overall World Cup. "I had a good run right from the start. My third victory in overall World Cup is definitely something special, also being able to win five times", stated the 26-year-old athlete after her run happily.However, not only the Italian were celebrating. The Austrian team as well had a victory with Sandra Mariner (AUT). The 27-year-old gained, due to a bad mistake in her second run, the first place ex aequo with Sonja Steinacher. "During the last few weeks my conditions grew more and more. Unfortunately, the season is over now", stated Sandra Mariner and is looking forward to the European Championship in Frantschach (AUT) that will start next weekend. "I will fight again to achieve a place as good as the last one. Whether taking part or not at the World Cup next year is still in the stars", told the second placed in the overall World Cup. After her resignation Sandra Marina still leaves some questions open: "I really enjoy this sport but another season is based on many different facts."Ekaterina Lavrentjeva (RUS), the overall World Cup victor in the season 2000/01, achieved the third place in Zelezniki with two constant runs. Finally, the 20-year-old athlete puts herself in the overall placing on the third place, shortly before the sisters Renate and Christa Gietl (ITA), who gained the forth and ninth place in Zelezniki.Andrzej Laszczak and Damian Waniczek (POL) started their first polish triumphal procession and assured their victory with two outstanding runs in Zelezniki before Reinhard Beer and Herbert Kögl (AUT) in men?s doubleseater. "We trained a lot and we got on well with the track right from the start", pointed out the duo. Also Beer and Kögl showed themselves quite satisfactory. "We are again in good conditions, after a long pause of injuries, and are looking forward to the European Championship", said Herbert Kögl motivated.On tomorrow?s programme, Sunday, will be the men?s singleseater. Gerhard Pilz promises real tension for the duo with Ferdinand Hirzegger (AUT): "Because the track is short and very flat at the top part, some hundredths of a second will make the difference."
