Qualifying runs, seeded groups, start order and sub-zero temperatures
Altenberg (pps) The permitted degree of sub-zero temperatures is identical for Viessmann Luge World Cup events and other FIL competitions. For both competition formats there is a maximum limit of minus 25 degrees.
At FIL Championships such as the 43rd FIL Luge World Championships (February 10-12, 2012) in Altenberg, Germany, on the other hand, different rules for the start order apply, as laid down in the International Luge Regulations (IRO).
The start number is determined by the results in the qualifying runs on Thursday (start men’s singles at 14:30 hrs and doubles at 16:30 hrs / CET) and Friday (start women’s singles at 08:30 hrs / CET). The position in the seeded groups (men’s singles 1 - 7 and 8 - 15 / women’s singles 1 - 10 / doubles 1 - 10) that results from the rankings of the three previous Viessmann Luge World Cup events is determined by draw. The start numbers for the first World Championship run are then allocated according to the results in the qualifying run.
In the second World Championship run the number of athletes is then reduced to a maximum of 25 (men’s singles), 20 (women’s singles) and a maximum of 18 doubles teams.
Start order at FIL Championships - 1st run
- men’s singles 1st - 7th place; 8th - 15th place (according to the draw of the current seeded groups), then 16th place - to the last-placed athlete according to the result in the preliminary run.
- women’s singles 1st - 10th place (according to the draw of the current seeded groups), 11th place - to the last-placed athlete according to the result in the preliminary run.
- doubles 1st - 10th place (according to the draw of the seeded groups), 11th place - to the last-placed doubles according to the result in the preliminary run.
Start order – 2nd run
- men’s singles 25th place - 1st place, according to the results in the 1st run.
- women’s singles 20th place - 1st place, according to the results in the 1st run.
- doubles 18th place - 1st place, according to the results in the 1st run.
