Calgary (FIL) On April 1, 2022, Robert Fegg will become the new head coach of the Canadian national luge team.

Fegg, who was born in Germany and lives with his family in Calgary, was most recently head coach at the US federation and led the team through the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing.
Robert Fegg is looking forward to the new position: "For me, coaching has now come full circle back to my adopted country, Canada. I'm really looking forward to the interesting work with the young Canadian national team with great potential!"

The 43-year-old was active as a luge athlete for Germany from 1997 to 2001 and, among other things, finished fourth in Men’s Singles at the 1999 World Championships in Koenigssee (GER).
Fegg will return to the Canadian federation "Luge Canada" on 1 April 2022 after coaching stations in South Korea and in the USA, where he already worked first as assistant coach from 2003 to 2010 and as junior head coach from 2010 to 2014.

“Robert is a proven performer who understands the Canadian sport system, has completed much of his coaching education here and is driven to put our young group of Canadian luge athletes back on the international podium,” said Tim Farstad, executive director, Canadian Luge Association. “Robert is committed to developing an athlete-centred program where our athletes can develop on and off the ice.”

Fegg succeeds Wolfgang Staudinger who ended a 15-year stint as head coach of the Canadian program where he led multiple athletes to Olympic, World Championship and World Cup medals. He will officially begin his new role with Team Canada on April 1.
