Königssee (RWH) His compatriot Semen Pavlichenko may have won the race, but Russian luger Roman Repilov did enough to secure his second overall victory in the Viessmann World Cup. Repilov, who had already won gold at this winter’s World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL), clinched overall victory by just 16 points ahead of Italy’s Dominik Fischnaller.

At the season finale of the Viessmann World Cup, staged on the oldest artificial ice track in the world at Königssee, Repilov finished third behind Pavlichenko and the Austrian Jonas Müller. Fischnaller, who won gold at this winter’s European Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL) was fifth. Record-breaking World Champion Felix Loch held the lead at the halfway point but dropped back to fourth.

Repilov won the overall title with 765 points ahead of Fischnaller (749) and Pavlichenko (741). Joachim Herrmann, Minister of the Interior of the state of Bavaria, looked on as the season finale unfolded.

Roman Repilov (RUS / World Champion 2020, Sprint World Champion 2020, World Championship silver medallist 2017, World Championship Sprint silver medallist 2017, European Championship silver medallist 2016 and 2019)

“I always find the Königssee track tricky. I set the fastest time on my second run but I came very close to crashing. What is worth more? The World Championship title or the overall World Cup victory? I would say my Olympic win is the most precious.”

Dominik Fischnaller (ITA / European Champion 2020, World Championship Sprint bronze medallist 2020, World Championship bronze medallist 2017)

“It was very close after the first run, so I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. But when I reflect on this winter it has been a brilliant season with the European title as the highlight. If I’d known that before the season opener, I would have grabbed it with both hands.”
