Berchtesgaden (FIL) Cosmin Chetroiu, Raluca Stramaturaru and Eugen Radu/Marian Lazarescu are the 2007 Romanian luge champions.
For lack of a luge track in their home country, Romania’s national luge team was guest at the luge track in Königssee on March 8/9 in order to crown its national luge champions. The team was made up of 39 singles and 8 doubles athletes from nine Romanian clubs.
In the men’s singles competition, Cosmin Chetroiu won in 1:38,936 minutes ahead of Marian Tican (1:39,588) and Valentin Cretu (1:39,993). Raluca Stramaturaru captured the gold medal in women’s singles with a total finish time of 1:36,034 minutes. Silver went to Violeta Stramaturaru (1:37,442), bronze to Manuela Danci (1:38,947). In the doubles race, Eugen Radu/Marian Lazarescu (1:35,774) won ahead of Cosmin Chetroiu/Ionut Taran (1:40.026) and Constantin/Tican (1:40.789). The President of the International Luge Federation, Josef Fendt from Berchtesgaden, personally conducted the awards ceremonies at Königssee, which is only a few kilometers away from his home town.
