Rupert Staudinger Behind the Scenes: From Luge Track to Broadcast Liaison at Paris 2024

Berchtesgaden (FIL/17 Apr. 2025) Two-time Olympian in luge, Rupert “Rupi” Staudinger (Team GB), experienced the Olympic Games from a completely new angle in the summer of 2024 — not on the ice, but behind the cameras.
Through the Athletes365 program, Staudinger took on the role of Liaison Officer for Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), stationed at one of the Games’ most iconic venues: the beach volleyball stadium set against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower.
“I was essentially the bridge between OBS, the host broadcaster, and the international media rights holders,” says Staudinger.
“I coordinated everything on-site — from supporting the rightholders to managing TV studios, camera positions, and the broadcasters’ mixed zone. It was an incredibly exciting challenge in a truly breathtaking location.”

To prepare for this role, the 28-year-old had already completed an intensive OBS training in Paris in fall 2023. During the Games, he worked for three weeks as part of the international OBS team, gaining hands-on media experience at the world’s biggest sporting event.
But the experience went beyond the technical side. “I met so many amazing people – former Olympians working for OBS through Athletes365, old friends from the luge circuit and Team GB as many other interesting people,” says Rupert.
“It was also great to just be a fan. I snagged last-minute tickets to skateboarding and athletics. The whole city felt like one giant celebration of sport.”
