On Saturday the Luge World Cup on Natural Track continued on the "Sparrow Hills-Track" in Moscow. The day brought a big surprise in the doubles, with a double victory for the host nation Russia.
MOSCOW On the spectacular ice track between the famous University-Building and the Luzhniki-Stadium three decisions were made on Saturday. In the men's single Thomas Kammerlander (AUT) celebrated his second win in a row. After the first run on Friday the European Champion was on 4th position. On Saturday he set a new track-record and took the win. "I did not think that after the miserable run on Friday there was a chance for victory. I'm really surprised. But with the colder temperatures the ice on the track changed and the system of luge and luger has worked again, " said Kammerlander, who repeated his victory in Moscow 2017 and is now the only leader in the overall World Cup-standing. In second place Alex Gruber (ITA), the World Champion was in the lead after the first run, but on Saturday he only scored the seventh time. Third position for Florian Glatzl (AUT), who was 0.01 seconds faster than Patrick Pigneter (ITA) on 4th place.
Third win in a row for Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) in the women competiton, followed by Ekaterina Lavrenteva (RUS) and Greta Pinggera (ITA). For Lavrenteva it is the first podium finish of the season after two 5th places.

In doubles Stanislav Kovshik/Ilia Tarasov (RUS) celebrated their first World Cup victory. With a flawless run the local-heroes prevailed clearly ahead of their team-mates Aleksandr Egorov / Petr Popov. The World Cup leaders and favorites Patrick Pigneter / Florian Clara (ITA) had to settle for the first time this season on 3rd position. Due to ongoing problems with the ice on the track the doubles competiton had to be scored after one run.
For Sunday the pursuit competitons are scheduled.
