Russia's relay team secures team title

Sigulda (FIL): An exciting 90 minutes for Tatjana Ivanova: First the Russian won the women's race at the EBERSPÄCHER World Cup and the FIL European Championships, then she also won the Team Relay together with Semen Pavlichenko and the double Vsevolod Kashkin/Konstantin Korshunov.
The quartet exuberantly cheered on the podium, chanting "Russia, Russia." over and over again. Their head coach Sergey Chudinov summed up the weekend by saying, "Today we were strong, focused and also had a little luck. Yesterday we were beaten, but today everything went well. We got really good results."

Second place was secured by Latvia's Eliza Tiruma, Arturs Darznieks and brothers Andris and Juris Sics, 0.167 seconds behind on their home track in Sigulda. "Of course we were hoping for gold, but Russia was a little faster," said Latvia's team manager Kristaps Maurins. Basically, the head coach drew a satisfied balance: "I am very satisfied with the results, especially with the fourth place of Arturs. His best result in the World Cup. Then all three doubles finished in the top six, with the title of Andris and Juris as the crowning glory. Our old masters used all of their experience. Plus bronze for the Young Bots and Plume, who didn't make the team last year."
Third place went to the German team with Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and the doubles team of Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt. This team had won gold at the Sochi Olympics seven years ago. In Sigulda, they were 0.189 seconds behind the winners.
Unfortunately, three of the ten teams did not make the cut. For the US team, Summer Britcher missed the touch pad as did Austria's Madeleine Egle. Korean Namkyu Lim crashed and thus his team was also eliminated.
