Russia win the team relay while Germany take home the overall title

Sochi (RWH) The Russian team has rounded off the luge season with a win in the team relay event. The current World Champions in the Viessmann Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW celebrated their second win of the season on the Olympic track at Sanki Sliding Center in Sochi. The host nation’s squad, which was made up of Viktoriia Demchenko, Semen Pavlichenko and Aleksandr Denisev/Vladislav Antonov, pushed the German quartet of Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken back into second place, while Latvia’s Kendija Aparjode, Kristers Aparjods and Andris Sics/Juris Sics finished in third.
The German team won the overall standings in the Viessmann Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW with 525 points. The teams from Russia (455) and Latvia (410) finished in second and third respectively.
Five years after the spectacular opening to the Olympics, the ice track in the mountains above Krasnaja Poljana hosted the final race in the Viessmann Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW after the race in Altenberg had to be cancelled due to poor weather.
