Russian Luge Cup in Sochi as World Cup qualifying race 

Sochi (FIL) On Tuesday, November 3 and Wednesday, November 4, 2020, the Russian Cup in luge was traditionally held in Sochi. It is held annually as a qualifying race for the upcoming international luge season.
On the first day, World Champion Ekaterina Katnikova won the Women’s single race ahead of Tatyana Ivanova and Ekaterina Baturina. Ex-World Champion Semen Pavlichenko ahead of Alexander Gorbatsevich and Stepan Fedorov won the Men’s singles competition. In the doubles' event, the sprint world champions Aleksandr Denisev / Vladislav Antonov won  ahead of Andrey Bogdanov / Andrey Medvedev and Vsevolod Kashkin / Konstantin Korshunov.

On the second day the sprint races and the Team relay competition were held. 

The winners of the Russian Sprint Cup 2020 are Semen Pavlichenko ahead of World Champion Roman Repilov and his younger brother Pavel Repilov. In the women's sprint competition, World Championship bronze medallist Viktoriia Demchenko was convincing, ahead of World Champion Ekaterina Katnikova and Olesya Mikhaylenko. The sprint world champions Denisev / Antonov also convinced on the second day of the race with a victory ahead of Stanislav Maltsev / Dmitry Khalilov and the previous day's second Bogdanov / Medvedev. 

In the Team Relay of the Russian Cup the team of Moscow with Julia Naumova, Roman Repilov and Andrey Bogdanov / Andrey Medvedev. The silver medal went to the team of Perm Krai region with Ekaterina Katnikova, Matvey Perestoronin and the double Stanislav

Maltsev / Dmitry Khalilov. The bronze medal was won by the relay team from Krasnoyarsk Krai with Ekaterina Baturina, Maxim Aravin and Dmitry Buchnev / Daniil Kilseev.
Russian head coach Sergey Chudinov said: "All results of the last two days were as expected. The first day of the national races was more important for the qualification. There were no big surprises and our team was in principle confirmed as expected".


For the Russian Cup, the Russian Luge Federation started a cooperation with the video hosting company SPORTRECS, the best startup in Russia in 2019.
On the first day of test broadcasts via the mobile app, 3,000 fans followed the live transmissions of the Russian Cup races in Sochi. With the help of the streaming, the spectators and fans were able to watch the races live.
