Russian relay team wins European Championship gold – Germany wins the Joska World Cup trophy

Sigulda (RWH) Russia’s lugers have won the European Championship team relay title in Sigulda, Latvia. The German squad clinched victory in the overall standings by finishing second in the race, which also doubled as the Viessmann Team Relay World Cup. The Russian team featuring Tatyana Ivanova, Semen Pavlichenko and Aleksandr Denisev/Vladislav Antonov took victory ahead of the German quartet comprising Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken.
Third place went to Latvia to give the host nation its second medal at the 49th European Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL). The Latvian team consisted of Kendija Aparjode, Inārs Kivlenieks and Andris Sics/Juris Sics, who had already claimed bronze in the doubles race on Saturday.
The German team claimed its eighth successive victory in the overall standings with 485 points, followed by Austria in second place on 400 points, and Canada in third with 381 points. Austria and Canada finished sixth and seventh respectively in Sigulda.
