Russian squad stop Germany in its tracks on the way to team relay victory

Whistler (RWH): Germany’s team has had to accept a surprise defeat in the first team relay race of the post-Olympic season.
At the Viessmann World Cup presented by BMW in Whistler, Canada, the two-time Olympic champions – made up of Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and the doubles pairing of Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken – were forced to admit defeat to the team from Russia.
With their victory, the Russian squad, made up of Tatyana Ivanova, Semen Pavlichenko and the doubles team of Vsevolod Kashkin/Konstantin Korshunov, prevented Germany from achieving its 36th win since the event was added to the World Cup programme. Third place went to the Canadian team of Kyla Graham, Watts Reid and the doubles pairing of Tristan Walker/Justin Snith.
There are still five more events scheduled for the Viessmann Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW in the 2018/2019 season. Whistler will be followed by Calgary (CAN) on 8 December 2018. After the Christmas break, the tour will then move to Königssee (GER / 6 January 2019), Sigulda (LAT / 13 January 2019), Altenberg (GER / 3 February 2019) and Oberhof (GER / 10 February 2019).
