Russian victories at the premiere of the pursuit race on natural track
Moscow (PMA) - A day after winning the World Cup race on natural track at Moscow, Aleksandr Egorov and Ekaterina Lavrentyeva celebrate another victory. They won the premiere of the pursuit race, a new racing format. In several knock-out rounds 24 male and 16 female athletes are reduced to two big finals, where the fastest six athletes compete against each other at a single run. Only the winners of the knock-out rounds advance to the next round and there are only a few lucky loser spots.
Men's competition is won by Egorov ahead of Austrian Thomas Kammerlander and Italian Florian Clara. At the women's event Ekaterina Lavrentyeva finishes first. Italian Evelin Lanthaler and Greta Pinggera complete the podium as second and third. There were no World Cup points rewarded.
