Two World Championship titles but no Olympic medal Innsbruck / Austria (pps) Two-time World Champions Tobias and Markus Schiegl of Austria announced in Innsbruck that they will retire from high-performance sport. The two cousins who took a World Championship gold medal in the double-seater in 1996 and 1997, competed in five Olympic Winter Games and twice took the thankless fourth place (1998 and 2002). They celebrated their last success at the 2008 Worlds in Oberhof, Germany, capturing a bronze medal. During their career, Schiegl-Schiegl collected a total of 14 World Championship medals in the double-seater and team events. In the future, Tobias Schiegl will be part of the team of coaches of Sports Director Markus Prock with Austria’s Luge Federation. Markus Schiegl, already a father of two, will be concentrating on his career as police officer. Three-time Junior World Champion Martin Abentung also announced his retirement from high-performance sport.
