Season review: Excitement, sensations and premieres -
the 2023/2024 Luge World Cup will live long in the memory

Team Korea, Oberhof 2024

Berchtesgaden (FIL/25 Mar. 2024) The 2023/2024 luge season with the 52nd FIL World Championships and nine EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup weeks came to an end at the beginning of March in Sigulda, Latvia.

This season will go down in history, characterized by thrilling excitement, sensational performances and remarkable premieres.

With 25 different nations from four continents competing in the 2023/2024 EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup, the season offered a broad international field. Athletes from seven nations stood on the podium over the course of the season, underlining the diversity and competition in this exciting winter sport.

Alex Ferlazzo, Altenberg 2024

The season was full of sensations, starting with Australian Alex Ferlazzo's remarkable fifth place at the 52nd FIL World Championships on the technically demanding track in Altenberg (GER) or the third place of the team from Romania at the warm-weather World Cup one week after the World Championships in Altenberg.

In exciting races, the spectators saw close finishes in which thousandths of a second made the difference. An outstanding example of this was the narrow victory of Austrian World Champions Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf in the men's doubles World Cup in Altenberg, where they had a lead of just eight thousandths of a second.

Max Langenhan, Oberhof 2, 2024

The two consecutive race weekends in Altenberg and the double World Cups in Oberhof and Sigulda were also a novelty. In the end, both athletes and officials agreed that although it would be good to stick to double World Cups in terms of reducing travel and energy costs in times of climate change, it would also become boring for everyone involved over time. In winter 2024/2025, there should therefore be a very varied calendar with ten venues on three continents and, if possible, no double World Cups.

In this season review series, we will look back on the 2023/2024 EBERSPÄCHER World Cup and the 52nd FIL World Championships in six weekly episodes.
