Lausanne (RWH) On April 6, 2015 the second International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) will take place worldwide. At the initiative of the International Olympic Committee IOC, this day was launched in August 2013 by the United Nations and pays tribute to the role of sport in education, health, socio-economic development and in erasing cultural barriers. 2015, the IOC have sought the help of inspirational Olympians, including IOC President Thomas Bach, who are demonstrating how sport is a tool for social change, development and peace. Through their anecdotes, experiences and initiatives, these sportswomen and sportsmen help to highlight how sport is a universal tool that encourages people to be physically active and adopt healthy lifestyles. How it inspires youth by assisting with their development. How it empowers women and girls, and is becoming a valuable platform to promote gender equality. How it builds bridges and promotes peace and respect. How it challenges social stigma and discrimination. How, ultimately, sport unites people regardless of their differences.
