Andi Langenhan wins Olympic test event in Sochi

Sochi (pps) While Germany’s Andi Langenhan took the podium’s top spot at the final of the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Sochi, Russia, his teammate Felix Loch earned his second overall World Cup crown. At the Olympic test event one year before the 2014 Winter Games at the “Sliding Center Sanki”, the World silver medalist won the event ahead of Russia’s Albert Demchenko and David Moeller (Germany). A six-place finish was enough for Olympic and four-time World Champion Loch to successfully defend his overall World Cup title. Having claimed the European gold medal in Oberhof (Germany) and the World Championship title in Whistler (Canada), the 23-year-old has thus won all the titles in the pre-Olympic season.

After nine Viessmann Luge World Cup events a year before the Winter Games, Loch took the overall World Cup crown for the second time with 650 points to his credit, followed by compatriots Andi Langenhan (613 points) and David Moeller (607 points) in second and third position, respectively. Record World Champion Armin Zoeggeler of Italy, who claimed his 55th individual World Cup victory at the eighth stop of the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Lake Placid in the U.S. state of New York, finished in fourth position. With 549 points to his credit, Zoeggeler earned the fourth place in the overall World Cup rankings.

ives me hope for next year. But then I’ve lost my second position in the overall World Cup rankings to Andi Langenhan.” Felix Loch (GER / 2010 Olympic and four-time World Champion, two-time overall Viessmann Luge World Cup winner)

“That’s just great and a perfect ending to the season. Even though it was tight in the end.”
