World Champion Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) started the new season of the FIL Luge World Cup on natural track with a double victory. On Friday, at the second World Cup in Winterleiten (AUT), the South Tyrolean was at the top of the podium for the second time within 24 hours.

Evelin Lanthaler underpins her supremacy in the women's singles. After winning the season opener on Thursday in Winterleiten, Lanthaler on Friday in race two celebrated her second victory with a time of 2.03.57 minutes. For the athlete from Passeier it was the 28th World Cup victory of her career, at the double World Cup in January on her home track in Moos the local hero could celebrate her 30th World Cup victory.

As on Thursday, second place for Greta Pinggera (ITA), 1.77 seconds behind, while local hero Michelle Diepold (AUT) finished third. For the 24-year-old Styrian it was the third podium in the World Cup.

“This is the perfect way to begin this season. Today I was more aggressiv than in the first race. I am very satisfied with my performance ”, Lanthaler analyzed.
In the overall World Cup, Lanthaler is in the lead with 200 points, followed by Pinggera (170) and Diepold and the Italian Daniela Mittermair are third with 140 points each.


Double victory also for Pigneter/Clara

In the doubles on Friday the favorites Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara (ITA) celebrated their second win of the season after their opening win on Thursday, again with the best time in both runs. With a time of 2.10.68 minutes the World Champions relegated the comebackers Christoph Regensburger/Dominik Holzknecht (AUT) to second place by 0.73 seconds, followed by Patrick Lambacher/Matthias Lambacher (ITA / + 1.18). The European Champions were in second place after the first run.

"We haven't changed anything with the material, we really like the track on the Winterleiten and have made a great start to the new season," said Patrick Pigneter after the double victory.

Pigneter/Clara lead the overall ranking with 200 points, Lambacher/Lambacher and Regensburger/Holzknecht share second place with 155 points each.


The second World Cup in Winterleiten continues on Saturday with men’s single and the team competition. Both races will be broadcast via livestream on the homepage of the International Luge Federation FIL (www.fil-luge.org).
