Semen Pavlichenko named overall winner of the Viessmann World Cup

Sochi (RWH) Semen Pavlichenko has secured the title of overall winner in the Viessmann World Cup. Following Albert Demchenko and Roman Repilov, the 2015 World Champion has become the third Russian to take home the Joska World Cup by collecting the most points this season. Thanks to his third win of the season, the four-time European Champion climbed to the top of the rankings after the men’s race in the morning, before achieving yet another victory on his home track in Sochi in the BMW Sprint World Cup.
Led by Pavlichenko, the host nation enjoyed a triple victory with Roman Repilov and Maksim Aravin finishing in second and third. Fourth place went to the two-time men's Olympic Champion and six-time World Champion Felix Loch, who thereby climbed up to third place in the overall standings behind Pavlichenko (788 points) and Repilov (718).
In the season finale to the women's event on the Olympic track at the Sanki Sliding Center, Russia’s Viktoriia Demchenko finished first ahead of Dajana Eitberger and Natalie Geisenberger (both GER). Geisenberger, the 2014 and 2018 Olympic Champion, had already scooped her seventh overall Viessmann World Cup win in succession on Saturday, finishing with a total of 1052 points. Second and third place in the overall women's standings went to Julia Taubitz (793) of Germany and the US athlete Summer Britcher (637), who finished eighth in the Sprint event in Sochi.
In the doubles event, Aleksandr Deisev/Vladislav Antonov of Russia repeated their success of the previous day. They were followed by Latvia’s Andris Sics/Juris Sics, who finished just eleven thousandths of a second behind in the silver-medal spot. Third place in the race went to the overall winners of the Viessmann World Cup, Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken, who ended up with 1050 points in total. Thomas Steu/Lorenz Koller (817) of Austria finished second in the overall standings after finishing fifth in the Sprint. The 2014 and 2018 Olympic Champions, Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt of Germany, finished seventh in the Sprint to collect 790 points and third place in the overall standings.
