Munich (pps) Sepp Lenz from Berchtesgaden, former head coach of the German national team, was honoured with the sports award of the Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber. Lenz, European champion in 1962, is considered as the ”discoverer” and close friend of three-time Olympic and three-time World champion Georg Hackl. Under the direction of Sepp Lenz Germany’s lugers altogether captured more than 90 medals at Olympic Games, Word and European Championships.
Even though Sepp Lenz, who lost a leg due to an accident on the artificial track in Winterberg, is enjoying his retirement for more than ten years now, his expertise and advice - especially regarding the construction of tracks - is still high in demand. Thus, for instance, he is giving moral and practical support during the construction of the artificial track in Cesana Torinese for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino.
Together with Sepp Lenz the former President of the German Bobsleigh Federation (BSD), Klaus Kotter, was honoured with the sports award by Bavaria’s Minister President.
