Simon Paregger Elected FIL Vice President for Alpine Luge

The 35-year-old Tyrolean has been involved in the luge world for almost 20 years

Berchtesgaden (FIL, 15 June 2026) – The 74th Congress of the International Luge Federation (FIL), held in Berchtesgaden, Germany, in mid-June, was dominated by elections. Latvian Einars Fogelis was confirmed as FIL President, while Simon Paregger was elected as the new FIL Vice President for Alpine Luge.

“Once part of the luge family, always part of the luge family,” says Simon Paregger when reflecting on his beginnings in Alpine Luge (then still known as natural track luge) almost 20 years ago. As a teenager, in 2007 he joined the Austrian national team by chance and took over responsibility for timing systems, radios, cameras and other technical equipment, after a call from the former sportsdirector, who happened to be one of his neighbours. At the 2011 World Championships in Umhausen (AUT), he became the youngest international official, while at the 2017 World Championships in Vatra Dornei (ROU) he chaired the jury for the first time. Since March 2024, Paregger has served as Vice President of the Austrian Luge Federation (ÖRV).

Simon Paregger succeeds Sorin Buta of Romania as FIL Vice President for Alpine Luge. At 35 years of age, Paregger is among the youngest vice presidents of any international sports federation worldwide. The keen motorcyclist works as Head of Spa, Fitness & Facilities Manager at the five-star hotel „Das Central“ in Sölden and lives in Längenfeld.

Following a well-deserved holiday, Simon Paregger will be available for an in-depth interview, which will be published on the FIL website in July.
