Berlin (pps) The Viessmann Luge World Cup is as exciting as never before in this
pre-Olympic winter. Altogether six races in the women’s, men’s and doubles’ events
have been decided so far at Altenberg, Germany, and Sigulda, Latvia. And there are
six different victors. Germany’s Anke Wischnewski and Silke Kraushaar won the two
women’s competitions; Austria’s Markus Kleinheinz and Russia’s Albert Demtchenko
the men’s; Austria’s Wolfgang Linger-Andreas Linger and Germany’s André Florschuetz-
Torsten Wustlich the doubles.
Even the domination of the German women who, since Sigulda, are undefeated in 50
successive World Cup events, seems no longer unimpeachable. Ukrainian Natalia
Yakushenko who defeated the Germans in the Suzuki Challenge Cup at Sigulda, is
convinced that the winning series will soon come to an end. „All officers dream of
being promoted to General one day. That holds true for us lugers too. The German
winning series will soon come to an end“, Natalia Yakushenko said at Sigulda.
