Oberhof (RWH) There seems to be no stopping Natalie Geisenberger when she’s on her luge. The Olympic and World champion and defending titleholder has taken her sixth victory of the season in Oberhof. In her 29th ever first place in a Viessmann World Cup, the 26-year-old German relegated her teammate and former Olympic gold medallist, four-times World Champion Tatjana Hüfner, to second. There was some consolation for Hüfner, who beat Geisenberger in the national championships, when she set a new track record (41.515 seconds) in her second run. Third place went to yet another German luger, Dajana Eitberger, who made a serious error in the first heat. Alex Gough of Canada was fourth. In international competition, Natalie Geisenberger has so far only been beaten this post-Olympic winter by Alex Gough and US athlete Erin Hamlin, who came first and second in the Sprint World Cup shortly before Christmas. The overall Viessmann World Cup rankings continue to be headed by Natalie Geisenberger, who stands far above the competition with 670 points. Tatjana Hüfner is second with 475 points and Dajana Eitberger third with 441 points. Quotes Natalie Geisenberger (GER / 2014 Olympic Champion, 2010 Olympic bronze medallist and 2013 World Champion) “It’s going fantastically. I can’t really explain it in words. Of course it’s great to win here in Oberhof. Winning in Königssee was good, but winning here is more important.” Tatjana Hüfner (GER / 2010 Olympic Champion and four-times World Champion) “The track record is nice to have, of course, because the first run wasn’t so good.” Dajana Eitberger (GER / 2014 European Championship bronze medallist and 2009 Junior World Champion) “The second run was much better. I wanted to give my all. My mistake in the first run was to underestimate my speed. I didn’t think I was going that quickly.”
