Small sprint crystal globes to Taubitz, Langenhan, Egle/Kipp and Bots/Plume

Julia Taubitz, Kristallkugel, Sigulda 2024

Sigulda (FIL/25. Feb. 2024) Julia Taubitz takes home luggage with excess weight from Sigulda. After her overall victory in the EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup, she also won the discipline classification with her success in the Sprint World Cup. In the race, she had needed 30.652 seconds for her run. "We're celebrating tonight," said the 27-year-old German and promised, "It's going to be a great party for two crystal globes." Local heroine Kendija Aparjode came in second (0.108 seconds back) ahead of the US American Emily Sweeney (0.208).

Bots / Plume, Sprint, Sigulda 2024

In the men's doubles, Martins Bots and Roberts Plume were able to make the most of their home advantage, as they did on Saturday. The two Latvians won in 30.714 seconds, 0.087 seconds ahead of Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt. Third place on the podium went to the Italians Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner (0.129). With this victory, Bots/Plume also secured the small crystal globe with 246 points ahead of Wendl/Arlt, who, like Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl (Austria), scored 225 points. "To be honest, we never looked at the sprint classification," admitted Bots, "our primary goal was always the overall World Cup. But this win gives us extra motivation."

Women's Doubles Sprint, Sigulda 2024

The joy of Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer (Italy) after their sprint victory in 31.187 seconds was restrained. Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal (Germany) had crashed after a good run after curve 13. "Of course we're happy about the win," said Vötter, "Jessica and Cheyenne didn't have to crash, we hope they're okay. You don't like to see a competitor fall." Second place, 0.074 seconds behind, went to the Austrian pairing of Selina Egle/Lara Kipp, who secured the small crystal globe with 285 points ahead of Vötter/Oberhofer (230). "We are simply sprinters, this discipline suits us," said Selina Egle. Third in the race and in the discipline classification was the German pairing of Dajana Eitberger/Saskia Schirmer (0.148 seconds back/225 points).
