Beijing (pps) China is considering bidding for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games with the city of Harbin. So far, however, there is only a declaration of intent and no official bid of the National Olympic Committee of China, which recently hosted the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in Beijing. „China was able to organize successful Summer Games, and it is able to stage successful Winter Games as well. There are preparations for a bid“, said the deputy Sport Minister Cui Dalin to the French news agency AFP. The bidding deadline of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for 2018 is October 2009.
Bids received by the IOC so far are Annecy (France), Munich (Germany) and Pyeongchang (South Korea). The Games will be awarded at the IOC Session in Durban, South Africa, in July 2011.
