St. Petersburg (pps) The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee unveiled in St. Petersburg / Russia the medals for the XXII. Olympic Winter Games (February 7-23, 2014) in Sochi (RUS). The medals will be awarded at 98 competitions in Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Curling, Ice Hockey, Luge, Skating (Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating and Speed Skating), Skiing (Alpine, Cross Country, Nordic Combined, Ski Jumping, Freestyle and Snowboard) and Skeleton. The round Sochi 2014 medals, 100 mm in diameter and with a thickness of ten mm, consist of metal and lucent polycarbonate in the shape of mountain tops. The front side features the Olympic Rings and the Sochi 2014 "Patchwork Quilt" – a mosaic of national designs from the various cultures and ethnicities of the Russian Federation. The reverse contains the name of the competition in English, and the logo of the Sochi 2014 Games. The official name of the Games in Russian, English and French is engraved on the medal’s rim. The medals for the athletes of the International Luge Federation (FIL) will be awarded with the decisions in the men’s singles (February 8-9, 2014), women’s singles (February 10-11, 2014), doubles (February 12, 2014) and – for the first time at Olympic Games – the FIL Team Relay event (February 13, 2014).
