Special Exhibition "Bavaria and Olympia 1896 – 2022 at the House of Bavarian History in Regensburg

Josef Fendt Olympia Ausstellung Regensburg 2022

Regensburg (FIL) On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the XX Olympic Summer Games 1972 in Munich (Germany), the House of Bavarian History will present the special exhibition "Bavaria and Olympia 1896 - 2022" from 12 July 2022 to 15 January 2023 and expand its collection on the subject of sport.
FIL Honorary President Josef Fendt has made some exhibits available for this temporary exhibition under the motto "Bavaria and Olympia". For example, you will find the so-called "egg helmet" with which Josef Fendt raced to silver at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, his sled and equipment that was secretly developed in the wind tunnel at the time.
Other highlights of the exhibition are the medals won by the Olympic stars, their sports equipment and the competition gear. Particularly spectacular at first glance are the large objects such as the replica of the four-man bobsleigh from Andreas Ostler's 1952 Olympic triumph in Oslo from the film 'Schwere Jungs', the winning boat of Oliver Fix in the single-man kayak in 1996 in Atlanta or the ski jumping outfit of Andreas Wellinger, Olympic champion of 2018 in Pyeongchang, falling down from the sky, as it were." A film accompanying the exhibition in the sports cinema spans the arc from the 1936 Olympic Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which were abused by the Nazi regime, to the cheerful and then so tragic Games in Munich in 1972, to the failed bids of the present day.
Unimaginable: the Olympics without Bavaria!
Bavarian Art Minister Markus Blume was enthusiastic about the exhibition at the opening: "The Olympics without Bavaria? Unimaginable! With the special exhibition 'Bavaria and Olympia 1896 - 2022', the House of Bavarian History is bringing a piece of Bavarian sports history back to life. Thank you for this great exhibition - like Olympia itself, it gives us unforgettable moments!"
669 medals in bronze, silver and gold have been won by Bavarian athletes at Olympic and Paralympic Games from 1896 to the present day.
