Altenberg (pps) In order to determine the seeded lugers for the Viessmann Luge World Cup events in the women’s and men’s singles as well as the double-seater next week-end in Altenberg, a sprint test event will be staged on Friday, December 4, 2009 as of 15:00 hrs. The last run of the final training session will thus be carried out as sprint event.

The rules for this event are based upon those for the Team Relay. In a determined timeframe the signal to start is given randomly and thus triggers the timing. The sled time is recorded after the luger strikes the touch pad. If a luger fails to strike the pad he or she will then be the last luger to start at the Viessmann Luge World Cup.

The sprint test event will be carried out following an initiative of the lugers, headed by Canada’s Jeff Christie, Athlete’s Representative within the International Luge Federation, FIL. For quite some years now, the athletes have tried to argument for more World Cup events, similar to the winter sports such as biathlon, Alpine and Nordic Skiing.
