Lake Placid (RWH)  The Sprint World Championship is set to become an integral part of the International Luge Federation (FIL) World Championships. The decision was taken at the 64th FIL Congress in Lake Placid, NY.

Following the success of the 2016 FIL Sprint World Championship during the FIL World Championships in Königssee, the Sports Commission recommended that the new format be adopted, with titles in the women’s, men’s and doubles events at all future FIL Championships. The proposal was accepted by the delegates in Lake Placid, along with a raft of other changes and additions to the IRO (International Luge Regulations).
