Start Cup in Sigulda with over 100 participants

Sigulda (FIL/14 Nov. 2022) On Saturday, November 12, the annual Luge Start Cup for the President's Trophy took place in Sigulda (LAT). This start competition for Latvian lugers traditionally marks the beginning of the new season.

103 athletes, including ten doubles, took part in the 2022 President's Cup, in age groups from Youth C to General Class. 

The national luge team was represented by all participants: Gints Bērziņš, Kristers Aparjods, Sigita Bērziņa, Elīna Ieva Vītola, Kendija Aparjode, Mārtiņš Bots/Roberts Plume, Eduards Ševics-Mikeļševics/Lucas Krasts and the women's double Anda Upīte/Sanija Ozolina. 

Gints Bērziņš and Agnija Bogdanova the fastest starters in Singles

Each participant made two starts. The times were added together. The men's competition was won by Junior Gints Bērziņš from Sigulda. Krisers Aparjods from Saulkrasit came second ahead of junior Kaspars Rinks from Ropaži.

Youth A starter Agnija Bogdanova from Riga was not only the fastest in her age group, but also in the junior and women's categories. Sigita Bērziņa from Sigulda took second place in the women's event and Elīna Ieva Vītola from Sigulda came third.

In the men's doubles the duo Martins Bots / Robert Plume (Sigulda / Ropazi) won. The women's doubles were won by the juniors - Viktorija Ziedņa/Selina Elizabete Zvilna (Salaspils/Ropaži).
